GEWÜRZTRAMINER AND PINOT GRIGIO
When I first scheduled my WSET 2 online class, I was really nervous about the timing. We were supposed to be gone a lot in the month of March and April, but I really didn’t want to delay these classes, so I decided I’d just figure it out and signed up.
Although, it’s been a weird time and I’m sad for what’s going on in the world and for all of the things that have been cancelled, I’m so thankful that I ended up signing up for this class. It has been the perfect distraction and has kept me pretty busy in a time where I’m missing seeing my friends and family.
While I’m trying all of these wonderful wines, I thought I would post my tasting notes for each – starting with a few white wines that I recently tasted. Below are the notes that I submitted and were reviewed by my WSET 2 instructor. Let me know if you have tried either of these white wines!
2017 B. Lovely Gewurztraminer
Appearance: Pale lemon in appearance
Nose: Medium stone fruit aromas of apricot and peach with honey and floral aromas of rose.
Palate: Off-dry and medium bodied white wine with medium acidity and medium alcohol. Medium primary flavors of nectarine, apricot and pear with medium tertiary flavors of honey and orange marmalade. The tertiary flavors linger for a medium finish.
Conclusion: This is a good wine that is well-balanced with a medium finish and identifiable flavors of nectarine, apricot, pear and honey. This off-dry wine would pair nicely with spicy foods.
2019 Conte Fini Valdadige Pinot Grigio
Appearance: Pale lemon in appearance
Nose: Medium aromas of lemon, melon and yellow apple
Palate: Dry, light-bodied white wine with medium acidity and medium alcohol. Medium flavors of melon, lemon and grapefruit with a short finish.
Conclusion: This is a good wine that is well-balanced with identifiable flavors of lemon, grapefruit and melon but with a short finish and low complexity.
