Drinking This Red Wine? Try This Instead!

Are you a red wine drinker that has wanted to venture out of your comfort zone and try new red wines but not quite sure where to start?

Well, if you’re a lover of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir or Malbec, you’ll want to give these different varieties a try! Check out the red wine suggestions below to pick up a new red wine to try!

Cabernet Sauvignon

Are you a lover of bold wines with big tannins?

Try diving into Tempranillo. Look for a Spanish Rioja which will be medium to full-bodied with high tannins and flavors of cherry, plum, cedar and leather. If you want a wine that really packs a punch with dried fruit, cedar and leather flavors, look for the ‘Riserva’ bottles!

Pinot Noir

Looking for a softer, fruitier red wine with no harsh tannins?

Look no further than Gamay! This light grape is perfect for Pinot Noir lovers, especially if you love the fruit forward flavors with good acidity like Pinot Noirs from the Sonoma Coast. Look for a bottle of French Beaujolais to test out the Gamay grape! If the wine is labeled Beaujolais Villages or Beaujolais Cru, it will be a little bolder. Wines labeled Beaujolais and Beaujolais Noveau will be on the lighter side.

Malbec

Are spicy and juicy Malbecs more your thing?

Try picking up a bottle of an Old World Syrah or a GSM Blend. Syrah is typically a medium-full bodied wine that presents some of the same dark fruit and savory/spicy flavors that you can often find in a Malbec. Combine those Syrah characteristics with Grenahce and Mouvedere for a GSM Blend and you’ll get wines that have a delicious combination of red fruit, black fruit, spice and herbal notes.
